It’s confirmed: the next edition of the America’s Cup, scheduled for 2017 in Bermuda, will be contested on catamarans of 45 to 50 feet, or around 15 m. A reduction in the length of the boats which was voted for by the majority of the teams entered. The competition's commercial director, Harvey Schiller, explained in an official statement: "Collectively, the teams agreed that the current high costs are neither justified nor acceptable. A majority of them made the reasonable decision to reduce costs. » The Italians were against the project, as were the New Zealanders, but the teams ultimately accepted the idea of ​​going from 60 to 45 or 50 feet. “For the Cup to be a success, it must be accessible to the best teams and not only to the richest,” explains Frenchman Franck Cammas (Team France). Six teams have confirmed their participation in the next America's Cup to date: defending champion Oracle Team USA of Larry Ellison, Artemis Racing (Sweden, Ben Ainslie Racing (Great Britain), Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa Challenge (Italy) and Team France.
