The United States before China

Tennis

Heading for the United States for the WTA. The Professional Tennis Players Association announced Tuesday, September 6 that the Masters would be played this year in Fort Worth, Texas. The competition bringing together the eight best singles players and the eight best doubles players will take place from October 31 to November 7. But the WTA specifies in a press release: the tournament could return to China as early as 2023. Under a long-term agreement concluded between the WTA and the Gemdale Corporation, the Finals were to be held in Shenzhen between 2019 and 2028. But the Peng Shuai affair (photo above) disrupted the established order, the international organization having taken the decision to remove from its calendar all events planned in China. Amy Binder, vice-president of the WTA, explained this to theAFP : " The WTA continues to work to find a solution in China and we hope to be able to host tournaments in the region starting in 2023. But we will not compromise on our fundamental principles to achieve this"
