Backtrack all the way to Australia. The New South Wales government officially announced on Thursday March 29 the abandonment of the project to demolish the Sydney Olympic Stadium. The enclosure used for ceremonies and athletics at the Summer Games in 2000 was to be demolished, to be replaced by a new stadium. But faced with public hostility, and especially the costs of the operation, the state authorities finally gave up. The Olympic Stadium, renamed ANZ Stadium, will simply be renovated and transformed. It will take a more rectangular shape. Consequence: a saving estimated at 500 million dollars. The work should begin at the end of 2019, and be completed during 2021.
