Olympics 2032

The withdrawal of the city of Hamburg from the race for the Summer Games in 2024 seems forgotten in Germany. A new Olympic candidacy is looming. It aims for the Games in 2032. And proposes a new concept. Revealed last year, the German project includes the rich Ruhr region. Its leaders revealed this week the details of the file, contained in a 180-page document. He specifies that the Olympic events would be spread across 13 cities: Aachen, Bonn, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Moenchengladbach, Oberhausen and Recklinghausen. The entire system includes 24 sports facilities, including 5 stadiums with 45.000 seats or more. The capacity would reach 640.000 spectators. The project includes the temporary transformation of the Schalke 04 football stadium into an aquatic center with 45.000 seats. The region has 115.000 hotel rooms. Called Rhein Ruhr City 2032, the project could be subject to a referendum.
