The story repeats itself. The International University Sports Federation (FISU) announces in a press release that it has awarded the American city of Lake Placid the organization of the Winter Universiade in 2023. The capital of the state of New York had already hosted the event for the first time in 1972. Host city of the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980, Lake Placid has organized for almost 40 years around a hundred stages of the World Cup, all winter disciplines combined, and 14 world championships. More than 3.000 athletes, from 60 countries and around 600 universities, will be expected at the Winter Universiade in 2023. The event will bring together 70 events over 11 days. As a reminder, the next two editions of the Winter Universiade are scheduled for Krasnoyarsk (Russia) in 2019, then Lucerne (Switzerland) in 2021.
