It's official. The French city of Montpellier will organize the World Figure Skating Championships in 2022. The Council of the International Skating Federation (ISU), meeting on January 15 in Rome, preferred it to the five other candidate cities: Turin in Italy, Minsk in Belarus, Budapest in Hungary, Bratislava in Slovakia, Sofia in Bulgaria. France has not hosted the World Figure Skating Championships since 2012, when the event took place in Nice. In Montpellier, the competition will take place from March 21 to 27, 2022, after the Beijing Winter Games. The ISU Council also awarded Montreal, Canada, the 2022 Short Track World Championships, and Hamar, Norway, the 2022 Speed Skating World Championships.
