Great evening for tennis, Thursday May 6, on the occasion of the Laureus Trophies ceremony, organized virtually from the Spanish city of Seville. Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka won two of the most coveted awards, respectively sportsman and sportswoman of the year. The Spaniard is a regular, having already been rewarded three times. The Japanese won her second trophy. Still in the tennis department, the American Billie Jean King was recognized with a Laureus prize for her entire career. Bayern Munich, winner of the Football Champions League, was crowned team of the year 2020. British driver Lewis Hamilton was recognized for his social commitment. Liverpool FC's Egyptian player, Mo Salah, won the Laureus trophy for sporting inspiration. Also rewarded for Canadian skier Max Parrot, a slopestyle and big air specialist, chosen in the comeback of the year category, for emerging victorious from his fight against cancer. The sporting revelation trophy was presented to Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, winner of the Super Bowl 2020. A street football program, Kickformore, imagined by a German organization, won the Laureus Sport for Good prize. Finally, the “sporting moment” trophy was awarded to American Chris Nikic, the first triathlete with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman.
