Logic. Meeting on Monday February 11, the South Korean Olympic Committee (KSOC) chose the capital, Seoul, as a candidate city for a joint candidacy project with North Korea for the Summer Games in 2032. Seoul was in competition with the port city of Busan, second city in the country in terms of number of inhabitants. KSOC members voted by secret ballot. Seoul received 34 votes, compared to 15 in Busan. The choice of the national Olympic committee must now be validated by the South Korean Ministry of Sports, a step presented as a formality. “ Seoul will cooperate with the national government to make the 2032 Summer Olympics more than just a sporting event, but an opportunity to change the fate of the Korean Peninsula.", declared Park Won-soon, the mayor of the capital, in a press release published after the vote. A Korean delegation, composed equally of leaders from the South and the North, is due to travel to Lausanne on Friday February 15 to meet Thomas Bach at the IOC headquarters. Its representatives are expected to take the opportunity to officially present their joint bid project for the Summer Games in 2032.
