Jae Youl Kim without rival. The president of the International Skating Union (ISU) is the only candidate running for his position. No surprise: he will therefore be re-elected for a second term at the ISU Congress, June 12, in Tenerife.
Two vice-presidents will be appointed, and the ISU electoral committee has validated seven candidacies: Fabio Bianchetti (Italy), György Elek (Hungary), Benoit Lavoie (Canada) and Ubavka Novakovic-Kutinou (Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina) for figure skating, Sergio Anesi (Italy), Alexander Kibalko (Russia) and Stoytcho Stoytchev (Bulgaria) for speed skating. Ten Council member seats will also be at stake, with twenty candidates on the starting line.
However, uncertainty has arisen regarding the organization of the congress due to the discovery of a hantavirus outbreak, which the ISU assures it is monitoring closely.
