Doping was not absent from the last Pan American Games, organized from July 26 to August 11, 2019 in Lima, Peru. According to Panam Sports, 7 positive cases were detected during the event. One of them concerns an Olympic judo champion, the Brazilian Rafaela Silva. Testing positive for Fenoterol, a medication used to combat the effects of asthma, she lost the benefit of her gold medal in less than 57 kg. Panam Sports explained that it carried out 1.843 urine tests and 252 blood tests, in competition and out of competition, during the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima. The other positive cases concern the disciplines of cycling, bowling, baseball, handball and basketball.
