The World Games want to expand their program. Two new sports are knocking on the door: wushu (photo above) and sambo. Barring an improbable scenario, they should be accepted by the members of the International World Games Association (IWGA), called to make a decision this Wednesday, May 26 during a videoconference meeting. The wushu and sambo authorities will present their discipline and their arguments, before letting the 37 international federations members of the IWGA proceed to a vote. In the event of a favorable result, these two sports would enter the program of the World Games in 2026 in Chengdu, China. But wushu could precede the movement by debuting at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, as a guest sport. The next edition of the multisport event, initially planned for this year in the United States, has been postponed for a year. It will be held in Birmingham from July 7 to 17, 2022. No less than 3.600 athletes from around a hundred countries are expected in Alabama.
