Russia wants clean athletics

Athletics

As the World Athletics Championships approach in Russia, Valentin Balakhnichev, President of the Russian Athletics Federation, responds to the accusations made by the country. He affirms that Russia is making progress in the fight against doping, particularly since the modernization of technical equipment at the Moscow anti-doping laboratory and the increase in staff qualifications, under the leadership of the new Russian Minister of Sports. The case of the hammer thrower, Olga Kuzenkova, had indeed sparked debate and raised issues. The thrower, Olympic champion in the discipline in Athens in 2004, was suspended last Tuesday for 2 years by the Russian Athletics Federation, just like Svetlana Kriveleva, bronze medalist at the 2004 Olympics.
