A page turns. The organizers of the Roland-Garros tournament announced via a press release, Sunday October 11, that the next edition of the French Grand Slam lift would be partly paid for by French viewers. In 2021, all night sessions between Monday of the first week and the quarter-finals, on Wednesday of the second week, will be broadcast in full in France by Amazon Prime Video. These ten evening sessions will take place on the Philippe-Chatrier court. The FFT press release specifies that subscribers to the pay channel will be guaranteed to follow the day's poster from 21 p.m., ladies or gentlemen. Last year, Amazon won the second batch of TV rights to Roland-Garros for the period from 2021 to 2023, i.e. the matches played on the Simonne-Mathieu court and the evening sessions. On the other hand, the semi-finals and finals will still be accessible without having to pay, since they will be co-broadcast by France Télévisions. Jean-François Vilotte, the general director of the French Tennis Federation, specifies: “ From 2021, the free broadcast of the tournament by the public television service will be even greater in terms of time than the last edition. »
