Controversy in Australia. According to Canberra Times, the capital's daily, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has reduced its workforce by 35% in recent years. A measure justified by its management by the need to devote most of the funds to the preparation of high level, in particular of the athletes competing for the Rio Games in 2016. Several leaders of Australian sport have recently criticized the management of high level in the country, comparing the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra to a “ghost town”.
