Rare. The International Canoe-Kayak Federation (ICF) announced on the occasion of International Women's Day: parity at the 2024 Paris Games will not only concern athletes. She will also be respected among technical officials. For the first time, the body has selected an equal number of men and women – 24 – to occupy the position of international technical official (ITO) in the disciplines of slalom and road racing. Among them, the Canadian Erin Schaus (photo above) will become the first female starter in history at the Olympic Games next summer in Paris, in the Vaires-sur-Marne basin. Same thing at the Paralympic Games, where the ICF selected 9 men and 9 women to officiate in the paracanoe events. As a reminder, the ICF had already taken a decisive step towards parity during the Tokyo 2020 Games, at least in the number of events, thanks to the addition to the program of the women's C1 200 and C2 500 in road racing, and women’s C1 in slalom.
