No miracle for Oksana Chusovitina (photo above). The Uzbek gymnast, who has gone down in history for having participated in eight consecutive editions of the Summer Games, will not once again mark the history of her sport and the Olympics next summer in Paris. Injured during training for the Asian Championships, currently being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, she had to give up participating in the competition, her last chance to qualify for the Paris 2024 Games. Aged 48, Oksana Chusovitina hasn't missed a Games since Barcelona in 1992, where she won a team gold medal as part of the unified team selection. At the Beijing Games in 2008, she won the silver medal on vault for Germany. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, at age 46, she became the oldest gymnast to compete in the Olympics. She then announced her decision to retire from sports, before changing her mind and deciding to prepare for the Asian Games in 2022, an event postponed for a year due to the health crisis. She then announced her intention to try to compete in Paris in 2024 for her ninth consecutive Olympic Games.
