A Swiss will replace a Belgian at the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The body announces that it has found a successor to its historic secretary general, Eric Saintrond (photo above), 64, whose retirement after more than 40 years at FISU is planned for the end of the year. Matthias Remund, 60, the current director of the Federal Office of Sport (OFSPO), the highest sports authority in Switzerland, will take office on January 1, 2025. He will be assisted by two deputy secretaries general, Paulo Ferreira and Fernando Parente, already in the position as general director for the first, development director for the second. A law graduate from the University of Bern, Matthias Remund has gained extensive experience during his career, working notably in federal administration, politics and sports administration at national and international level. For FISU, the departure of Eric Saintrond will mark the end of an era. The Belgian became its secretary general and director general in 2007. At the time, the body employed 15 people. It now has more than 50 employees and consultants.
