UWW tests new rule in Greco-Roman wrestling

Wrestling

The United World Wrestling Technical Commission has approved the testing of a rule change in Greco-Roman wrestling. This test will take place during the European Championships in Bratislava, from April 7 to 13. The new rule states that if a fight ends 1-1, the victory will be awarded to the wrestler who scored the first point. This rule will only apply to matches that end in a score 1-1The technical commission recognized "unanimously that the current rule, which awards victory to the athlete who scores the last point, can unintentionally encourage passivity at the beginning of the fight ». The UWW specifies that « other senior continental championships or international tournaments may also be selected for additional testing.”.
