
The UIPM Executive Board met on Thursday. Among the decisions announced was that in 2026, the Modern Pentathlon World Cup will make a stopover in Catania (Italy) and will end in Budapest (Hungary). Above all, the FI will organize Obstacle World Championships starting this year, in October. The competition will take place in Beijing, which will also host it in 2026, 2027 and 2028. A way to accelerate the integration of the obstacle into the pentathlon landscape and to offer more competitive opportunities to athletes in this new format. 100-meter, 400-meter and 3-kilometer courses will be on the program. The organizing committee offered a significant prize money " according to the UIPM, which will invite for these World Championships pentathletes but also athletes specializing in obstacle courses.
"The creation of the UIPM Obstacle World Championships is an important step in the continued integration of this popular urban sport in our movement, underlines Rob Stull, the president of the IF. Having successfully introduced obstacle as a new discipline in pentathlon, it is essential that we also offer obstacle athletes stimulating opportunities to test their skills in a high-quality competitive environment. It will be fantastic to see how the pentathletes measure up to their specialist obstacle course counterparts in October."
