The International Cycling Union will appeal the decision of the Spanish courts to refuse access to more than 200 bags of blood confiscated from Doctor Eufemanio Fuentes, sentenced to one year in prison for the “Puerto” doping affair. The world cycling institution thus follows the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency (AEA), which announced that it would appeal the decision of judge Julia Patricia Santamaria not to deliver the samples. During the trial, which took place from the end of January to the beginning of April in Madrid, Doctor Fuentes notably claimed to have worked “with all types of athletes: this or that athlete, boxer, footballer on an individual basis”. But Judge Julia Patricia Santamaria did not then consider it “relevant” to ask him the names of his former clients.
