The IOC's creation of the Olympic Games of eSports, the first edition of which is announced for next year in Saudi Arabia, is already having an effect in the sports movement. The bodies are throwing themselves into eSports, with the stated ambition of integrating the program of the new event. The latest: the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). It announced that it had been accepted as a new member by the Global Esports Federation (GEF). Things didn't take long: the IWF's application for membership was made in the last days of July, for a favorable response on August 1 from the president of the GEF, Singaporean Chris Chan. Responsible for the promotion, support and development of the global ecosystem of eSports, the GEF currently has 180 members spread across five continents. It organizes the Global Esports Games every year, the last edition of which, last year, took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The next one is planned for this year in China. Comment by Mohammed Jalood, IWF President: “ In 2025, we will celebrate our 120th anniversary, but our goal is to always remain innovative and “young”. The possibilities offered by new technologies are already reshaping the way we practice sport. We are also pleased to see that the IOC is also embracing these new developments.”
