ISU joins WADA in Valieva case

Skating

The Kamila Valieva case is gaining depth at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). After the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Skating Union (ISU) announced that it had also filed an appeal against the decision of the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) to clear the young Russian skater of doping charges. “ The ISU has conducted a full review of the decision and RUSADA’s case and has decided to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, indicates a press release from the body. The ISU believes that all young athletes must be protected from doping. Such protection cannot be achieved by exempting them from sanctions.. » Like the AMA, the ISU asks the CAS to pronounce a period of suspension of the young skater, world champion in 2021, and the cancellation of all her results from December 25, 2021. But, unlike the anti-doping agency, it does not formalize a request for suspension, specifying that it must be “ at the discretion of the CAS”. WADA, for its part, suggested in its appeal a four-year suspension sentence. In its press release, the ISU also asks the court based in Lausanne to “ decide the consequences of Kamila Valieva's anti-doping rule violation and determine the final results of the figure skating team event at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.. A year after the competition, won on the ice by Russian skaters wearing the colors of their national Olympic committee (ROC), the Olympic medals have still not been distributed.
