The Colombian city of Barranquilla has definitively lost the organization, but the 2027 Pan American Games will remain in South America. Panam Sports announced at the end of last week that it had selected two candidates to replace Barranquilla: Lima in Peru and Asuncion in Paraguay. Both cities submitted their applications before the January 31 deadline. As a reminder, the Pan-American Olympic body, Panam Sports, withdrew last month from hosting the Games in Barranquilla, in northern Colombia, following a succession of breaches of the host city contract, including the payment of a fee of $4 million to be paid no later than December 31. The Colombian authorities have taken many steps to maintain the organization of the multisport event, but without succeeding in convincing Panam Sports to reverse its decision. Lima and Asuncion will have to present their candidacy on March 12, during an extraordinary general assembly of Panam Sports, organized online. The vote will take place after the two presentations.
