IBA puts its hand in its pocket

Boxing

The IBA is sparing no effort to stem the exodus of national boxing federations to World Boxing. The body chaired by Umar Kremlev has announced an unprecedented initiative: covering the accommodation costs of all boxers, plus three coaches per country, at the men's and women's youth world championships, held from October 22 to November 3, 2024 in Budva, Montenegro. The aim is to enable the widest possible participation in the world tournament, and thus ensure a replacement for Olympic boxing, which is still under threat of disappearing from the program at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. More than 360 boxers from 52 nations have already registered for the 2024 Youth World Championships. Entries continue until September 15.
