The IAAF knew about Russia

Doping

Striking and terrifying revelation from the agency Associated Press in the Russian doping case. According to a sum of documents sent to AP by an anonymous source, the IAAF was aware of doping practices in Russian athletics in 2009. The International Federation had warned Russian sports authorities that blood tests carried out on the country's athletes revealed very spectacular anomalies. In a letter obtained by the American agency, Pierre Weiss, then secretary general of the IAAF, explained to Valentin Balakhnichev, president of the Russian Athletics Federation (now resigned), that the results of the controls could even constitute a real danger to the health and lives of doped athletes.
