Odd. Meeting on Wednesday October 5 in Seoul in a general assembly, the South Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) chose a new president. The election brought together 5 applicants. It was marked by the victory of the most controversial of the lot, Lee Kee-heung, the former president of the South Korean swimming federation. He obtained 294 votes, ahead of Chang Ho-sung (213 votes), the president of Dankook University; Jeon Byung-kwan, a professor of physical education at Kyung Hee University (189). The only woman in the running, former world table tennis champion, Lee Elisa, member of the National Assembly, took a disappointing 4th place, with 171 votes. Former judoka Chang Jung-soo brought up the rear with only 25 votes. Vice-president of the national Olympic committee between 2005 and 2016, head of delegation to the London Games in 2012, Lee Kee-heung is therefore moving up a notch. However, he was forced to resign as president of South Korean swimming last March, the federation having been shaken by a vast corruption scandal during his mandate.
