Last stop on the road to Paris

Urban sports

The IOC has lifted the last corner of the veil on the Olympic Qualifier Series, the final stage of the qualification process for the Paris 2024 Games in BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and climbing. The two competitions, organized respectively in Shanghai from May 16 to 19, then in Budapest from June 20 to 23, will put more than 150 Olympic qualification places at stake. The list of 464 participants has been confirmed. It reflects gender parity, with athletes from more than 120 national federations on all continents. In BMX freestyle, climbing and breaking, athletes will compete for a maximum of 50 points during each of the two stages, i.e. a maximum total of 100 points per entrant. The points obtained during the two stages will be counted in a ranking for each sport, which will determine which athletes will obtain qualifying places for the Paris 2024 Games. In skateboarding, the points system is divided into three parts: the results of the competitions previous and the results of the tests of the Olympic Qualifier Series from Shanghai and Budapest. One third of the points are awarded from previous competitions, while the remaining two thirds will be up for grabs in Shanghai and Budapest. The cumulative points from all competitions will establish the final ranking. THE Olympic Qualifier Series, a new addition to the international calendar, will be marked by the presence of 81 Olympians, including 18 medalists from the Tokyo 2020 Games.
