WADA ready to take CAS action

Skating

Tension is growing between Russia and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The bone of contention is Kamila Valieva, the world figure skating champion, suspected of doping at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. WADA President, Pole Witold Banka (photo above), explained on Thursday October 27 that he reserved the right to seize the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after the decision of the Russian anti-doping agency (Rusada) not to communicate the results of the hearing of the young skater. “ WADA is concerned by the delay in Kamila Valieva's case and has notified Rusada that if the case is not resolved quickly, it will use its right to refer the case directly to the Court of Arbitration for Sport“, tweeted Witold Banka. Rusada announced on October 21 that it would not communicate on the investigation into Kamila Valieva and her positive doping test before the Beijing Winter Games, specifying that all details would remain confidential, including the accusation and the results. The Russian body justifies its position by the age of Kamila Valieva, who celebrated her 16th birthday last April, and her status as “ protected person » at the time of the affair. But this lack of transparency seems little appreciated by WADA, which now says it is ready to take the matter to the sporting courts. As a reminder, the IOC has still not awarded the medals for the team figure skating event of the Beijing Games, won by Russia, pending the results of the investigation into Kamila Valieva.
