Lake Placid wants to go back

Winter games

Surprising. In the middle of the campaign for the Winter Games in 2030, where Salt Lake City is one of the four applicants, another American city is eyeing the Olympic meeting. Lake Placid, in New York State, is also starting to consider a bid for the Winter Games. The state legislature approved last week the creation of a commission dedicated to studying the feasibility of a new Olympic project in Lake Placid, host city of the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980. At this stage, the The project remains very embryonic, with state elected officials not having even mentioned an edition of the Winter Games for which to prepare a file. But the city intends to rely on the facilities of the Winter Games in 1980 and the World University Winter Games in 2023, where 12 snow and ice sports will be brought together. According to Billy Jones, a Democratic elected official in charge of the project, the disciplines of skiing and snowboarding, biathlon, sliding track, curling and the speed skating oval could be located in Lake Placid, figure skating, short-track and hockey being played in New York, at Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center.
