Its reintegration into the Olympic movement remains very uncertain, but the AIBA continues to advance its pawns. The international boxing body announces its decision to award a prize money to the medalists of the next men's world championships, scheduled for October 24 to November 6 in Belgrade, Serbia. This will be a first in the 75-year history of AIBA. Each new world champion will receive a check for $100.000. The body will pay 50.000 dollars for a silver medal, and 25.000 for bronze. In total, the jackpot allocated to these bonuses amounts to 2,6 million dollars. Comment from AIBA President, Russian Umar Kremlev: “ This is the first time that AIBA will financially reward world championship medalists. But this is how it should be. This money is well deserved, given the years of preparation and efforts made to participate in the major AIBA tournament. This development will greatly benefit our boxers, not only by helping them perform in the ring, but also by allowing them to gain financial comfort and autonomy. » Despite a vast reform plan and the announcement of financial balance, AIBA remains in the IOC’s sights. The Olympic body is still waiting for guarantees as to the reality of the change in the mode of governance, but also as to the credibility of its financing plan.
