The Olympic regattas promise to be of an unusual type at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The International Rowing Federation (World Rowing) announced this to its member federations on the occasion of its last congress, organized on Saturday November 6 in virtual mode: the Council of the body voted in favor of the proposal of the organizing committee of the LA28 Games to move the competition site to Long Beach Marine Stadium (photo above), in the center of the device. It was initially planned for Lake Louise, more than 100 km from Los Angeles and the athletes' village. Such a change will have the advantage of keeping rowing at the heart of the event, on a historic site, the scene of the Olympic regattas at the Los Angeles Games in 1932. But it will not be without effect on the progress of the events. As the Long Beach pool is small, the regattas for the Los Angeles Games will take place over a distance of 1.500 m, and not 2.000 m as required by World Rowing regulations. Consequently, the Olympic qualifying events scheduled for 2028 will take place over the distance of 1.500 m. All other international competitions of the Olympiad, including the world championships, will remain contested in the usual 2.000 m format.
