The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has updated its list of persons sanctioned and declared ineligible. 75 different countries are represented, with a predominance of cases from Kenya (119) and India (108) which together account for almost half of the suspensions (481 in total). The sanctions issued against athletes from these countries have exploded in two years since Kenya had only 54 cases as of December 31, 2022, and India 65. The Kenyan government has pledged $25 million to fight doping over the period 2023-2027, which has resulted in a quadrupling of tests from 2022 to 2023. Russia ranks third with 73 athletes involved, not a big surprise given the multiple revelations about institutionalized doping. Regularly singled out, China follows with "only" 26 cases. The United States has 16, including Brianna McNeal, Olympic champion in the 100 meters hurdles at Rio 2016, suspended until August 2025. The former 800-meter world champion, Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, is one of the eleven French people currently under sanction.
