Jean Zoungrana wins Europe

Canoe

France has a new president of an international sporting body. Jean Zoungrana (photo above), president of the French Canoe-Kayak Federation (FFCK) since 2016, was elected head of the European confederation of the discipline (ECA). The election took place during the ECA general assembly, organized in Crete. The Frenchman dismissed his only rival, the Briton Albert Woods, by 21 votes to 15. His victory marks a turning point for the European Canoe Association, which was chaired by Albert Woods since its creation in 1993. The Briton will be able to console himself with a title of honorary president for life of the body. The Frenchman, for his part, adds a new function to his mandates as president of the FFCK and vice-president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). His new position also secures him a place on the board of directors and executive committee of the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
