Recognition for Milan-Cortina 2026Italian President Sergio Mattarella received the Olympic Order This Tuesday. The IOC President Kirsty Coventry handed it over at the Quirinal Palace, during a private audience, in the presence of the president of CONI, Luciano Buonfiglio, the secretary general Carlo Mornati and the president of the organizing committee of the Winter Games, Giovanni Malagò.

« With this award, the IOC wishes to express to President Sergio Mattarella its sincerest thanks and profound gratitude for his unwavering commitment and steadfast support which made the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics possible an unforgettable event " explains the body.

Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport; Andrea Abodi Minister of Sports and Youth; Giancarlo Giorgetti Minister of the Economy and Finance; Fabio Massimo Saldini, government commissioner and managing director of Simico; and Joseph Fasiol , extraordinary commissioner for the organization and execution of the Paralympic Games, were also decorated. Kirsty Coventry also presented the "Olympic Cup" to the Italian people for their passion and hospitality this winter.
