Isinbayeva accuses

Russia

Yelena Isinbayeva, the world record holder in the pole vault, goes on the offensive. After explaining her desire to refer the matter to the International Court of Human Rights if the suspension of Russian athletics deprived it of the Rio Games, she is now attacking the other major sporting powers. She accuses Britain, the United States, Kenya and Germany of practicing “systematic doping”. “We know that in these countries athletes have been disqualified. We know that they were sidelined for two years, that they continued to train, that they came back to win and break records. We know that there is systematic doping among them,” suggests Yelena Isinbayeva. The Russian pole vaulter, who has never before been involved in a doping case, is a candidate during the Rio Games for election to the IOC Athletes' Commission.
