The International Cycling Union (UCI) is in turn embarking on the path of electronic sport. It announces that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zwift, a global online training and competition platform for athletes. It focuses on the governance and development of eSport cycling as a new discipline. The agreement between the two parties follows the integration of eSport cycling into the UCI statutes, approved by the Congress in September 2018. It has a double objective: to create the conditions guaranteeing that the specialty meets the criteria of integrity and fairness required for any discipline governed by the UCI, and set up the first UCI eSport cycling world championships. They will take place in 2020 on the Zwift platform. Both parties agreed that a maximum of 15 national championships will be organized in certain countries, as well as continental championships. These competitions will serve as qualification for the eSport Cycling World Championships.
