It was time. Eight years after its return to the Olympic program, at the Rio Games in 2016, the golf tournament for the Paris 2024 Games will be almost full. Unlike the last two editions, marked by a large number of withdrawals, the world elite will be present at the Golf National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (photo above). Only two eligible players, Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and Chilean Cristobal Del Solar, will be missing. For the rest, all qualified male golfers will travel to Paris. At the 2016 Rio Games, the four best players in the world – Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day – had given up. No less than 12 eligible players preferred to abstain. Five years later, the health crisis prompted 11 players to abandon the trip to the Tokyo Games, including Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Matt Fitzpatrick and Louis Oosthuizen. At the 2024 Paris Games, where countries can field between two and four players depending on their ranking, the competition will feature eight of the top 10 and 13 of the top 25 players in the world. For women, the Olympic tournament has always attracted the world elite since the Rio 2016 Games.
