Golf is being built

Rio 2016

Work has finally begun on the future green which will host, after 112 years of absence, the Olympic Golf events.

It was last October that they should have normally started, but a dispute over the ownership of the 240 hectare site was still ongoing between Italian developer, Mauro Pasquale, and Elmway Participacoes. The latter notably wanted to build a commercial complex there.

The golf course will occupy approximately 45% of the site, surrounded by the remainder of a nature reserve.

3 years before the Rio Olympics, it was time!
