Gerd Butzeck candidate for the presidency of the International Handball Federation

The Egyptian Hassan Moustafa has been head of the International Handball Federation (IHF) since 2000. He had been re-elected without any opposition in 2013, 2017 and 2021. The situation will be different, however, at the IHF Congress at the end of the year (December 19-22). The Cairo native, who will have 81 years old this summer, will have to deal with Gerd Butzeck (66 years old) since the executive committee of the German Handball Federation has decided to propose him as a candidate. Former referee and trainer, Butzeck then worked within various bodies, notably as a member of the Executive Board of the European Handball Federation. "Gerd Butzeck is one of the most experienced and prominent handball administrators. He benefits from an international network and a in-depth knowledge of our sport, from the lowest to the highest level. He has the strength to further professionalize handball, insists Andreas Michelmann, president of the German Federation. With this proposal, we want to offer the community the opportunity to contribute to shaping the global future of handball."
