The World Boxing Congress will be held on November 23 in Rome. It will notably determine the successor to Boris van der Vorst, who will not seek another term as president. Two candidates are vying for his position: Gennadiy Golovkin (Kazakhstan) and Mariolis Charilaos (Greece)Olympic silver medalist in Athens, Golovkin is currently the head of the Kazakh National Olympic Committee. Charilaos, meanwhile, has just stepped down as president of the Hellenic Boxing Federation, a position he had held since 2021.
In total, 17 candidates from 16 countries are running for the various positions up for grabs. Golovkin also appears on the list of contenders for the role of vice president, alongside Istavan Kovacs, Ryan O'Shea, Mohamed Touma and Chaiwat Chotima.
