A boost for Australian canoeing. The National Olympic Committee (OCA) has announced that the federal and New South Wales political authorities have jointly agreed to provide $3,2 million (€1,93 million) in financial assistance for the organisation of the 2025 World Slalom Championships by the Australian Canoe and Kayak Federation (Paddle Australia). The event is scheduled to take place from 1 to 6 October at Whitewater Stadium in Penrith (pictured above), the artificial river used for the Sydney 2000 Games. The Olympic venue serves as a training base for Australia's elite whitewater paddlers, as well as juniors and the country's best hopes. The 2025 World Slalom Championships are expected to bring together around 300 competitors from 50 nations, competing in ten medal events. Paddle Australia is expecting more than 20.000 spectators. With three medals, all gold, Australia had its best-ever Olympic Games in canoe-kayak slalom last month in Paris. The event also saw the election of six-time Olympic medallist Jessica Fox to the IOC Athletes' Commission.
