And two. After the Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh in 2019, a second high jumper was designated by the Association of European Olympic Committees (EOC) to receive the Piotr Nurowski Prize for the year 2022. This distinction was created in 2011 by the EOC to reward young athletes for their “ remarkable sporting performances, but also exceptional behavior on and off the field”. For the class of 2022, the prize goes to Serbian high jumper Angelina Topić (photo above). She narrowly beat British diver Andrea Spendolini Sirieix, with 33% of the votes, compared to 31% for the high-flying specialist. Born in Belgrade in 2005, Angelina Topić this year broke the under-18 world record (1,96 m). At the European Multisport Championships in Munich, she made history by becoming the youngest medalist in the history of the competition, thanks to her third place in the high jump. The young Serbian has someone to take after, as her two parents, high jumper Dragutin Topić and triple jumper Biljana Topić, are both Olympians. In addition to the trophy, Angelina Topić received a training grant of 15.000 euros from the EOC.
