Table tennis and fencing licenses to explode after Paris 2024

France

The National Institute of Youth and Popular Education (INJEP) has just published a survey on sports practice in clubs. It reveals an undeniable Paris 2024 effect in France. According to its estimates, the number of annual sports licenses increased by 5% at the start of the 2024-2025 school year compared to the same period in 2023. A higher increase than that observed during previous post-Games back-to-school periods. The federations that are reaping the benefits are in particular table tennis (+23%), badminton (+19%), fencing (+19%), archery (+15%) and taekwondo (+13%). Disciplines where French athletes shone at the Games: fencing brought back seven medals to the blue-white-red delegation, while table tennis, boosted by the Lebrun brothers, archery and taekwondo brought two. French badminton shone at the Paralympic Games with three podiums, including two titles, thanks to Lucas Mazur and Charles Noakes. The French Paralympic Sports Federation recorded a 21% increase in licenses. The Paris 2024 effect can be observed more precisely among 56-99 year-olds (+9%) and among women (+6%). The results of this survey, based on data collected in November, will be consolidated next July.
