Good and bad news for the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The body has revealed the applications for two of its major events on the calendar: the alpine skiing and Nordic skiing world championships in 2029. For the first, three applications were submitted on time. They are all European. The attribution of the global alpine skiing event, the last of the Olympiad before the Winter Games in 2030, will be decided between Narvik (Norway), Soldeu (Andorra), and Val Gardena (Italy). Promising. On the other hand, only one candidacy has been registered by the FIS for the Nordic Ski Worlds in 2029. It comes from the Finnish town of Lahti, already host of the event seven times, the last dating back to 2017. Only one candidacy, also, for another meeting on the international calendar in 2028, but in a non-Olympic discipline, ski flying. It was submitted by a regular, the Slovenian resort of Planica, which has hosted the event for the last seven editions. The decision concerning these three World Championships will be taken at the 55th FIS Congress, scheduled for June 4, 2024 in Reykjavik (Iceland).
