Tony Estanguet confirmed this in an interview with Sud-Ouest Dimanche: he was indeed asked by Michel Barnier, the Prime Minister, to join the government after the Paris 2024 Games. A proposal that he refused, without really asking himself the question for very long. "I had an offer that I did not accept because I wanted to complete this Paris 2024 mission, to devote my time to the success of the Games until the end, explained the COJO president. I wanted to stay focused on my mission and not get involved in politics. It is neither a desire nor, in my opinion, the place where I could continue to be involved." Tony Estanguet also said he would like to be able to take a breather in early 2025, to think about his future career change.
