Australian political authorities want to put an end to inequalities between men and women in high-level sport. According to the agency Reuters, Australian Sports Minister Sussan Ley sent an official letter to the country's thirty main sports organizations, most of them federations, asking them to no longer treat athletes of both sexes differently when it comes to travel and accommodation in the competitions. It specifies that public subsidies could be reduced, or even eliminated, in the event of a breach of the principle of equality. The issue has been taken very seriously in Australia since the London Games in 2012, where the women's basketball team traveled to Great Britain in economy class, while the boys were entitled to a business flight.
