Eight new members proposed at the session

IOC

The IOC will soon gain depth. Its executive committee, meeting last week in Lausanne, decided to propose at the session, on July 23 and 24 in Paris, the election of eight new members. Unsurprisingly, the list respects parity, with four women and four men. Four candidates are proposed as independent individual members: the Egyptian Aya Medany, the New Zealander Sarah Walker, the Argentine Paula Belén Pareto, and the British Hugh Robertson. Three other candidates were proposed in connection with their role as president of a national Olympic committee: Damaris Young (Panama), Gene Sykes (United States), Ian Chesterman (Australia). Finally, the last on the list will join the college of international federations: Johan Eliasch, president of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). Furthermore, fifteen IOC members reaching the end of their eight-year mandate, following their election or re-election in 2016, will be proposed for re-election for an additional eight years, the age limit being taken into account for the end of the mandates (80 years for those elected before December 1999 and 70 years for those elected after this date): Thomas Bach, Sergei Bubka, Richard Carrion, Anita DeFrantz, Guy Drut, Robin Mitchell, Denis Oswald, Princess Anne of England, Nita Ambani , Sari Essayah, Ivo Ferriani, Auvita Rapilla, Anant Singh, Tricia Smith, Karl Stoss. The Algerian Mustapha Berraf, president of ANOCA, will be proposed for an extension of his mandate by four years. Finally, the session will be invited to validate a new status for two IOC heavyweights, the Australian John Coates and the Turk Uğur Erdener. As of January 1, 2025, they will join the ranks of honorary members.
