It is from Taipei that Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, President of the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) and member of the IOC Executive Committee, formalized this morning his candidacy for the Presidency of the International Olympic Committee. After having given Jacques Rogge, last week, a letter of intent (see our article of May 20 on this subject), CK Wu presented this morning his vision of a CIO spearheading the effort towards a better world and of a Presidency serving its members.
CK Wu said:
« I am convinced that what the IOC needs today is a leader capable of harmonizing relationships, delegating responsibilities to members and helping them achieve and exceed Olympic ideals. The future President must know how to encourage IOC members to greater collaboration and to play a proactive role in their country to represent the IOC there. ».
« What I would like to propose to all our colleagues is that we consider ourselves members of an organization that is leading the effort towards a better world, not just for the athletes and the Olympic family, but for the benefit of all our loved ones and society as a whole ».
