Elective week for the International Skating Union (ISU). The organization is meeting in Seville, starting this Monday, June 4, for its first congress in 2 years. It will be dominated by the presidential election, scheduled for Friday June 8 at the Barcelo Renacimiento in the Spanish city. An election for which the outgoing Jan Dijkema (photo below) is the only one in the running. Aged 73, the Dutchman was elected in 2016 for only 2 years, after the mid-term withdrawal of the Italian Ottavio Cinquanta, president of the ISU since 1994. Jan Dijkema is this time seeking a 4-year mandate. The ballot promises to be just as quiet for the Russian Alexander Lakernik and the Norwegian Tron Espeli, also the only ones in the race for the positions of vice-president, in charge of figure skating and speed skating respectively.
