No real surprises in Denver. Called to the polls on Tuesday, June 4, the residents of the capital of Colorado voted overwhelmingly in favor of an ordinance establishing consultation of the population in the event of an Olympic candidacy. At 21 p.m., when most of the votes were counted, the yes vote was well ahead, with 79% of the votes. According to the text of the ordinance, a public consultation will now be necessary to approve the use of “ public funds, resources or tax guarantees in connection with the upcoming Olympic Games”. At this stage, the scenario of a Denver bid for the Winter Games remains very hypothetical. Last December, the American Olympic Committee (USOC) favored Salt Lake City to defend the United States' chances in the race for the Winter Games in 2030. It could therefore take at least a decade, if not several, before an application from Denver. But the result of the vote organized on Tuesday June 4 in Colorado once again confirms the public's distrust of the Games.
